You don't get it because you have a badge or a position. 

It isn't even built by being "friends."

It isn't because we like each other. 

Respect is about a value and an understanding of someone else that goes deeper than appearances. 

Respect means that I acknowledge you, I accept you, and I honor you. 

Respect isn't coerced, contrived or controlled, it's given. 

Respect doesn't happen automatically, it's cultivated, built, often over time. 

Respect is a crucial, and often overlooked, component of love, maybe even a prerequisite. 

Respect is mutually transformative.
