Something Wrong, Something Real pt 1
Religious tradition, like the people who inhabit it, is a combination of beauty and brokenness.
At best, our faith traditions inspire hope, build community, coordinate work for good in the world and develop people with vibrant spirituality. At worst, they abuse, they divide, fuel hatred and war and keep people small, fragmented and dependent. If we are honest, I think all of us can identify the tension we have felt personally. We can see how our faith communities help us to be more in tune with God, ourselves, others, our world, and also how they put blinders on us for those very same things. Sometimes, though, it is more difficult to see how these groups, stories and practices can put us at odds with the very mission we feel called to. In short, we are between something wrong, and something real.
